Ethics & Responsible Recognition
Ethical principles for applicants, witnesses, reviewers, administrators and recognition holders.
Integrity of recognition
Recognition has value only when the information supporting it is treated responsibly. PAR expects applicants, nominators, witnesses and administrators to provide and handle information honestly.
Core principles
- Honesty: do not knowingly submit false, fabricated or materially misleading information.
- Authenticity: provide evidence that can reasonably be connected to the claimed activity or result.
- Fair representation: do not alter the wording of a recognition to imply a broader achievement than PAR actually recognized.
- Confidentiality: evidence submitted for review should not be treated as public material merely because it was submitted.
- Conflict awareness: persons participating in a review should disclose relevant conflicts where applicable.
- Correction: known material errors should be brought to PAR’s attention so that an appropriate correction can be considered.
Children and vulnerable participants
Where recognition involves children or other participants requiring additional care, submissions and public presentation should be handled with appropriate privacy, consent and safeguarding considerations.
No recognition through payment alone
Payment for an application, administrative service or publication-related service does not itself establish an achievement or guarantee recognition.
